Matters of Interest

Good Evening,

I wanted to take a few moments of your time to cover some items that may be of interest to you, the family member of a missing person, and/or one of our peers who might be able to utilize some, or all of the information provided.

Family Member Conference Calls

As some of you might recall, we previously had bi-monthly internet text chats set up for family members to be able to meet and talk. Due to scheduling conflicts, the chat has not taken place as of late. We're still planning on using it in specific situations, such as guest chats in which we want a transcript, or by popular demand.

Project Jason is making use of new technologies available to better serve you. To this end, we are going to have one or more test conference calls with family members of missing persons. Our new system allows us to make a conference telephone call with up to eight persons at the same time. These conference calls would allow family members of missing persons to talk to each other on the telephone in a group setting. We will call you on your land line, so you would incur no cost to participate.

We will be conducting a test this Tuesday evening, April 17th, at 6:30pm central time. If you are interested in participating, and will be available on that date and time, please let me know at your earliest convenience. We'll use this test to help determine the optimum group size and explore sound or other quality issues. During the call, we'll share an overview of our missing loved one's story and discuss issues related to our situations. We'll ask you to provide feedback about the experience after the call via email. If you are interested and available, please email me.

If the conference calls are successful, and in demand, we'll be very pleased to continue with them and offer them as a regular service. Most family members of the missing find it very helpful to be able to talk to other family members. Many of us are isolated geographically and financially, preventing us from reaching out to other family members. The Family Member Conference Call can serve to bring you together with those who understand this unique experience and what you are going through.

Considering a Private Investigator

Steve Bronnum, a former, but seasoned private investigator with experience in missing persons' cases, has graciously taken the time out of his busy schedule with the Missing People Podcast to write a two part series for our Voice for the Missing blog entitled "Considering a Private Investigator." The purpose of this series is to provide family members of missing persons with the knowledge they need to make an informed decision about using and choosing a private investigator. You may read the series by clicking on the links below. We hope this information will be helpful to you.

Missing People Podcast

Recently, we sent you an email detailing the Missing People Podcast. We have several interviews up on the site with family members and professionals in the cause. If you missed this email and the detailed information about how you can participate, please let me know, and I will be happy to resend it to you. Interviews are just one part of the offering to increase awareness of your missing loved one. You may listen here: http://www.lumospub.com/interviews.html Recent interviews include Vicki Kelly of the Tommy Foundation, and Stephanie McNeil, sister of missing John Spira.

Coming Soon: A Special Report about Siblings of Missing Persons

With thanks to our friends in Australia at the Families and Friends of Missing Persons Unit, we will be publishing a multi-part series about the issues faced by siblings of missing persons. This series, reprinted with permission, covers the needs of the siblings, which sometimes can be overlooked with the attention and support often provided specifically to the parents or other caregivers. We know you will find valuable information in the series, whether you are a sibling or a parent. We'll start the series later this week at http://voice4themissing.blogspot.com/

As always, with hope for all of our missing loved ones,

Kelly Jolkowski, Mother of Missing Jason Jolkowski
